Antenatal (pregnancy) check-ups help find and manage problems early. Nepal's national guideline recommends at least eight contacts with a health worker during pregnancy.

First trimester (weeks 1–12)

  • Confirm the pregnancy and estimate the due date.
  • Blood tests, blood pressure and weight.
  • Start folic acid and iron as advised.

Second trimester (weeks 13–27)

  • Anomaly ultrasound scan.
  • Tetanus vaccination.
  • Screening for diabetes of pregnancy if advised.

Third trimester (weeks 28–40)

  • More frequent visits to check the baby's growth and position.
  • Planning where and how you will give birth.
