Many families in Nepal look after older parents at home. With a little planning, you can reduce risks and make daily life easier for everyone.

Medicines

  • Keep an up-to-date list of all medicines and doses.
  • Use a weekly pill box with morning and evening sections.
  • Review the list with a doctor every few months.

Preventing falls

  • Keep floors dry and free of loose rugs and wires.
  • Add night lights between the bedroom and the toilet.
  • Fit grab bars in the bathroom.
  • Encourage good footwear with non-slip soles.

Regular check-ups — without the travel

Travelling to hospital can be tiring for older people. A doctor home visit or a video consultation can cover routine check-ups, while a home nurse can help with injections, dressings and monitoring.
