Living with diabetes means paying attention to what, when and how much you eat. Traditional Nepali meals can fit well into a diabetes-friendly diet.
Build a balanced plate
- Fill half the plate with vegetables (tarkari, saag).
- A quarter with protein — dal, beans, eggs, fish or chicken.
- A quarter with rice or roti — try brown rice, millet (kodo) or mixed-grain roti.
Simple swaps
- Choose whole fruit instead of juice.
- Drink tea with less or no sugar.
- Snack on roasted chana or peanuts instead of biscuits.
- Eat at regular times — do not skip meals.
